Not that I'm opposed --

[ The phone or an interim of camaraderie? Seconds pass, awaiting a timed rejection of either or, wordless and callous. There's a fleeting downward glance as if to preface it all with Goro's countenance momentarily blank at the proffered sentiment, another stage set for folly to overrun their struggles with that same push and pull. In the end, a loose grip rests around Akira's wrist, tugging him along with every forward step Goro takes away from their mini standstill. The open air versus a darkened expanse of nothingness -- adapted comfort was found in the latter, but he seems fine enough right now. ]

But what for? [ Not that Akira ought to be forever barred from returning home. But he didn't need Goro following after for that.

Why here rather than Tokyo, still. Perhaps this was an alternative to being sent away, out of sight, out of mind: Akira was never meant to depart from rural customs, forced to adjust to the guzzling maw of Tokyo's endless bustle; in another timeline, maybe he was meant to stay -- because somebody else had the misfortune of playing hero in the boy's stead. Goro could always ask, brusque and impolite, but. It's not like he was being invited indoors; waiting around outside is the obvious given.

So, a proposed detour: ]

Once we've reached the halfway point though, let's make our way there. They must be looking forward to your return regardless of how long you were supposedly out. [ Parents... ]
